Reuters News won two major prizes at the New York Photo Awards on Friday (May 16). Ibraheem Abu Mustafa won Best Editorial Single, for this image showing a Hamas fighter at a customs checkpoint in Rafah.
Bearing Witness – a project reflecting five years of reporting the war in Iraq won Best Multimedia (Photo/Video).
The project by Ayperi Karabuda Ecer, VP Pictures, and Jassim Ahmad, Head of Visual Projects, with Reuters Pictures, TV and Text teams, was produced in collaboration with multimedia producers MediaStorm.
Jassim accepted the prize with Brian Storm of MediaStorm, dedicating it to the 127 journalists and 50 media support staff who have died covering the conflict, and to those who continue to overcome obstacles to ensure the stories are told.
Reuters News photographer Ibraheem Abu Mustafa won Best Editorial Single for his image showing a Hamas fighter at a customs checkpoint in Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza. The picture appears in the new book Our World Now.
Around 400 top industry professionals attended the ceremony at the inaugural New York Photo Festival. The winners were selected from over 3,000 entries and 15,000 images.
