Calling all freelance camera workers in television news and current affairs! You have until Friday 4 September to submit your entries for the 2009 Rory Peck Trust awards.
It doesn't matter where in the world you work - but to be eligible your entry must have been broadcast during the period from 1 August 2008 to 31 July 2009.
There are three categories:
News Award (where the focus is on coverage bringing the immediacy of the story;
Features Award (which honours in-depth reports that look beyond the story's immediacy); and
the Sony Professional Impact Award (which honours news footage raising humanitarian issues and producing an impact internationally or contributing to a change in perception or policy).
Judging takes place in London and all finalists will be honoured at a ceremony in the UK capital on 19 November 2009. The awards and finalists' works will feature on Channel 4 (UK), BBC World and Reuters TV.
The UK-based Rory Peck Trust was set up in honour of the British freelancer killed in Moscow during the revolt against Yeltsin in October 1993. Realising the financial vulnerability of freelance journalists and their families in the event of such death or injury, his widow worked with supporters to establish the trust which now helps freelancers' families around the world. The award ceremony event is the trust's main fundraiser for this work.
