Safety project manager wanted

The International News Safety Institute (INSI), a non-profit organisation working to protect journalists and other news media in danger zones around the world, is seeking a Project Manager in London.
INSI describes itself as the world’s only journalist support organisation dealing solely with safety matters. It has provided safety training to 1,600 news workers in 21 countries.
Supervised by the Director, the Project Manager will coordinate day-to-day administration of the organisation’s activities, in particular the planning and execution of safety training projects, the daily updating of INSI’s safety website content at www.newssafety.org and real-time maintenance of INSI’s casualty records. The successful applicant must also be able to draw up and ensure adherence to tight budgets.
The post calls for news industry background and extensive relevant logistical experience such as office and/or team management, field production, event planning and execution and wide travel experience in a working environment. A person with a strong international NGO or charity administration background would also be considered.
INSI is a small office so the Project Manager will shoulder considerable responsibility. Strong initiative, imagination and willingness to work flexibly are necessary,INSI says, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member both in a small office and outside with others from different governmental and NGO areas and regional cultures.
“A thick skin and sense of humour would be valuable, and valued,” the INSI job advertisement states, adding: “A readiness to work from time to time in hostile environments, where safety training is needed in-country by local news media, is essential.”
The post calls for excellent English language skills and says a second major language would be a strong asset. The Project Manager will report to INSI’s Director and its Board.
The position is based in London, UK, and initially will be on a one-year renewable contract with an immediate start.
Applications should be sent by email with CV attached to the Director, Rodney Pinder, Rodney.pinder@newssafety.org
